Independent Report
generalThe hotel is perfect for those with a bit of patience, who want a taste of New York, an exceedingly handsome atmosphere, but with just a bit of nostalgia for what they have left behind. No pets allowed in the hotel.
Please be aware that each individual guest will be responsible for incidental charges to be paid upon departure. To guarantee these charges, the hotel requires credit card at time of check in. An authorization for the amount of 150 USD per day will be assessed for incidentals. The hotel will be unable to register any guest that is not able to provide sufficient credit to cover their charges upon arrival.
lobbyThe small lobby resembles a slightly updated, but very tasteful mansion living room: leather armchairs, 1920's nickel lamps, and Parisian flea market cane tables. There's also an MC. Escher carpet and Japanese paper screens but the feeling is old-fashioned formal.
exteriorThe turn-of-the-century building is grand from the outside, with its Beaux-Arts limestone facade, but inside is smaller and less intimidating than Morgans Hotel Groups other hotels.
restaurantIf you are hungry for a bit of outrageous style, eat at the hotel's restaurant where you'll find massive expanses of white marble, the "make new friends" communal table, and motel style waterfall mural. The cuisine is described as New York-innovative pan-Asian, with a dash of Caribbean flair.
roomsThe rooms are stylish with a clean, contemporary feel. Guests enjoy low profile beds, down pillows and comforters, fine Oxford bed linens, distinctive maple furnishings and upholstered window seats. Bathrooms are modestly sized and tiled in black and white checks, while bedrooms are a calming caramel, ivory and pale gold. The fabrics provide an unexpected tingle, corduroy armchairs, suede banquettes and silk lampshades.
locationThe hotel is located in the Murray hill area, one block from the JP Morgan library, convenient to shopping, theatre, entertainment museums and nightlife.
